myKWS wins an award
Premium variety + premium service = value added. That’s the simple formula Mario Klass, Lead of Customer Management, uses to describe the essence of myKWS, the digital services package for farmers worldwide who use KWS seed. More than 20 tools, including map-based field dashboards and integrated satellite image analyses, offer every farmer direct benefits. Now this high-precision KWS application has won an accolade: On May 4, 2020, myKWS will pick up the prestigious iF Design Award in the discipline Service Design/UX (user experience). myKWS impressed the almost 80-strong international jury of experts with the customer-centricity of its solutions, which help maximize harvests by delivering year-round digital support tailored to farmers’ specific situations. |

KWS BrandNet
Clear brand in everyday work
The existing CI portal is being replaced by our digital brand platform KWS BrandNet, which offers clear PowerPoint templates, the complete contents of current campaigns that can be used right away, and practical tools such as the icon library or logo generator. BrandNet is the interface to KWS’ media database and the central point to go to for all matters related to KWS’ brand design. All KWS colleagues and, after they have been given permission, external partners such as agencies and printing companies can access it by means of a simple login process without registering. Employees can post ideas for field days, campaigns and videos, for example, and thereby share knowledge internationally. In that way, we strengthen the KWS brand lastingly – both inside and outside the company. BrandNet is an intuitive and digital solution containing all the latest corporate design guidelines and templates. |

Workshop
Employees of the future?
Our Human Resources department and R&D Data Management (RD-DM) jointly staged a recruiting workshop so as to attract students to KWS as a potential future employer. On the premises of the University of Göttingen, 25 students from German universities worked on creating a phylogenetic analysis – using actual data from our seed production and under the supervision of our data managers. The participants praised this “example of a practical application” and the chance to work “efficiently on a coding project.” “This practical example shows how departments looking for good people can also present themselves as an attractive employer,” says Mandy Reese, who accompanied the project on behalf of the HR department. The first inquiry about the possibility of spending a semester as an intern at the company was received right after the workshop. |

Further training
Master plant technologist in 800 hours
Nine plant technologists from KWS have taken part since November in a new Germany-wide further training course to qualify as masters in that field. “I’d like to raise awareness of this possibility among the departments – because I personally wouldn’t have wanted to go off to study at a university or the like,” says Virginia Beier, one of the participants. The “Preparatory course for external students’ examination and qualification as a master plant technologist” comprises phases of learning at the campus of the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) in Gatersleben and work projects at the company. A total of around 800 hours of theoretical instruction will be given over the three years. That not only helps students prepare for the exams, but also lets them look and think outside the box. Employees must have three years of work experience and – if the costs are paid by KWS – a recommendation from their head of department to be eligible. The next intake will commence its studies in November 2022. |
