From the world of KWS

fit@work

Cooking online

apetito, our caterer in Einbeck, offered an online cookery course under the slogan fit@work on January 27. Forty participants were provided with a list of ingredients beforehand and joined in live over Microsoft Teams. Chef Marcus Schiedel and moderator Melanie Hanisch presented interesting facts about uncommon ingredients, such as parsnips and turmeric, while everyone chopped up, seasoned and cooked the food together – or rather on their own at home. The result was a healthy and really tasty winter bowl. There was also instant feedback: “That was really fun!” was one of the many positive responses. Another cookery course is being planned. |

Using the logo correctly

KWS’ logo is the heart of our visual identity. Ensuring we convey a consistent corporate image is vital to strengthening trust in our brand. The precise requirements are defined in the revised chapter on our logo in the KWS BrandNet. The rules are not only relevant to the Marketing department, but also to all users wishing to use the logo – whether for social media posts, the website, the variety catalogue or PowerPoint presentations. |

At the end of January, the Executive Board presented the Strategic Planning 2031 (SP31). But how does strategic planning actually work? The intranet page Strategic Planning – our core strategy instrument explains this process. Our strategic planning is carried out on a rolling basis, i.e. each new planning process builds on the previous planning. The results of the current Strategic Planning at Group level and in the individual business units can be found in the current issue of insideKWS and also on the KWS Strategy pages on the intranet.

Vegetables from Almería

KWS is setting up a breeding station, with trial areas and offices for research & development and the business administration team, at the center of European vegetable breeding. The campus in the Spanish city of El Ejido (in Andalusia’s Almería province) is 14.5 hectares in size and is to be built from scratch. The location will focus on breeding tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, three of KWS’ key strategic vegetables along with melons and watermelons. “Construction of the breeding station is an important step in expanding KWS’ vegetable business further,” says Wybe van der Schaar, head of vegetable breeding in Spain (he can be seen on the photo together with site manager Javier Checa). |

SAP S4/HANA: Launch in the UK

With the successful GoingLive of the first version of our future global SAP template in our UK subsidiary, our S/4 project team has reached an important milestone in the digital transformation roadmap of the KWS Group. Nine workstreams have standardized and harmonized processes and data ranging from seed production to customer delivery and documented them in Signavio. The backbone of the template is the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, hosted on Microsoft Azure. Among other things, it connects the SAP Central Procurement Hub (CPH), it.mds (NTT DATA Business Solutions Germany) as the central hub for master data management, xFlow (xSuite Group GmbH) for the capture and approval of incoming invoices and SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) for integrated sales planning. The rollouts of functionally expanded template versions to KWS' subsidiaries in Canada and Romania are already being planned for the first half of 2022.

After 8 to 12 years of development, just a single variety out of several

of candidates is awarded approval. Breeders need access to as many genetically different plants of a species as possible in order to find useful traits for new varieties. |
