What to do in an emergency
An accident – now what?
What should you do during and after an accident? Our company disaster protection organization (BKO) explains.
First aid starts with the first responders – by making an emergency call or taking immediate action. A first responder is anyone who is the first to arrive at the scene of an accident or who directly witnesses the accident. There is also in-house training via Success Factors, which is also available in English for the first time this year.
If a person has lost consciousness or suffered extensive injuries or severe bleeding, for example, it is advisable to call in KWS’ company paramedics under the internal emergency number. They can provide advanced first aid and assess what to do immediately after the accident.
Rescue chains – what should I do in the event of larger accidents?
The general rule is: Secure the scene of the accident, take care to protect yourself and call other colleagues for assistance. On the company grounds, an emergency call should be made using the internal phone number, which will connect you to the reception’s prioritized emergency telephone.
The reception staff alert the company paramedics and, depending on the situation, also the external emergency service. It is important to dial the internal emergency number so that our reception staff can send them to the right place on our large campus.
If an accident occurs while people are working in the fields, we recommend alarm apps such as BIWAPP or Nora, which issue an emergency call as well as pinpointing the location. On business trips within Europe and for employees working at locations other than Einbeck, the international emergency number 112 should be dialed directly.
If an accident does not require an ambulance but a visit to the doctor, there is an online list of the nearest medical references at diva-online.dguv.de. The membership number of our responsible occupational accident social insurance fund SVLFG (+49 (0)311 55 25 879) should be given in the doctor’s practice. This insurance also covers accidents on the way to and from work.
What to do after an accident at work
Minor accidents are documented with an accompanying slip. These can be found at the plaster dispensers and first aid kits and can be handed in to the company paramedics or reception. Larger accidents must be reported to supervisors by means of an accident report.
Accidents that result in at least three days of incapacity to work must be reported immediately to the supervisor. It is always advisable to review how the accident occurred so as to examine what preventive measures, if any, can be taken.
All information on what to do in an emergency can be found on the intranet. |
