Dear readers,
Agriculture faces huge challenges. Greater yields are needed to feed the world’s growing population, yet it’s virtually impossible to increase the land that can be used for that. At the same time, farming is more difficult as a result of climate change, while the use of chemicals is to be reduced significantly so as to protect the environment and preserve it for coming generations. For decades, KWS has made a contribution to achieving sustainable agriculture with its adapted, high-performance varieties. Now it has defined a concrete roadmap with clear objectives it aims to accomplish by 2030 – true to the motto: Sustainability begins with seed. Learn more about the “KWS Sustainability Ambition 2030”.
Research and development are the basis for KWS’ success. Our varieties sometimes embody decades of work by our breeders and, increasingly, know-how gained in research. In the previous issue of insideKWS, we reported on the reorganization of research and development. In this issue, you can find a joint interview with Thomas Ehrhardt, the new Global Head of Research and Services, and his predecessor Jürgen Schweden.
Even in the times of coronavirus, we at KWS continue to train young people. At the end of July, 46 of them celebrated completing their training, and we welcomed 34 new trainees in August. A very special idea was put into action so as to attract as many future talents as possible to KWS: Since August, a bus in KWS’ characteristic orange color and the slogan “Plant Your Future” has toured Einbeck and the region.
We hope you enjoy reading this edition of insideKWS!
