Sugarbeet Challenge

Beet that for size!

The first-ever Berlin Sugarbeet Challenge was staged at KWS Berlin in the summer. Our aim was to give our many new GLOBE colleagues a very practical means of getting to know KWS’ oldest product better. Jörg Philipps (Head of the BU Sugarbeet) and Wolfgang Lüders (Product Manager Sugarbeet) provided detailed insights into our Sugarbeet unit back in February. At the time, our colleagues were given seed to grow sugarbeet on their balconies and windowsills or in their front gardens. A hundred of them joined in. Peter Hagenow (seen in the photo), Head of the Expert Hub Procurement, harvested the heaviest beet (520 grams) in July and was crowned sugarbeet champion. The team prize also went to Procurement: The combined total for its six beets was 2.7 kilograms. The winners can now look forward to a workshop day with their sugarbeet colleagues. |

What should I do if I have compliance concerns?

If you aren’t sure whether certain procedures or activities at a KWS company conform to our compliance regulations, you can turn to the Group Compliance Office (GCO).

Doing so is important to protect the company and employees against damage caused by compliance violations. The GCO guarantees that all reports are treated in strict confidentiality and that it will take all measures necessary to investigate the facts.

You can contact the GCO by phone, by e-mail or using the new Compliance Reporting Platform, which is replacing the Compliance Hotline. This platform is a secure Internet-based system to enable employees to raise concerns about potential compliance violations securely and – if desired – anonymously without revealing their computer’s IP address. The platform is available in the languages of the countries where KWS has locations.

Accessing the platform
There are three ways of doing that:

Switch to Edge

All employees worldwide can now use Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser for all web applications. Even applications that only used to work in the old Internet Explorer now run in the new browser. Further advantages: Edge is optimized for all Microsoft 365 products, and the digital insideKWS can now display all interactive options and technical features. You are strongly advised to switch to using Edge, which you can do under Windows 10 by selecting Start > Settings > Apps > Default apps. You then select Edge Chromium as the default browser. When Edge Chromium is launched for the first time, you are asked whether you want to import bookmarks from other browsers. |

Share a piece of our home town

Two original Einbeck articles are now available in our web shop. KWS’ aim is to share a piece of its home town and present two products that are made with an appreciation for tradition and handicraft and with a passion for ingredients, constituents and materials.

KWS SENFLIEBE

Our mustard variety MARTIGENA and syrup from our sugarbeet varieties have formed a wonderful liaison. The result is a top-quality, medium-hot organic mustard: KWS SENFLIEBE. It is made in the traditional style by our regional partner, the mustard mill Einbecker Senfmühle: The ingredients are processed by hand and stone-ground with a lot of care and no additives.

The mustard can be purchased in our web shop and in the canteen in Einbeck.

Indigo-dyed towel

For almost 400 years, fine fabrics have been embellished in Einbeck by a special technique: indigo dyeing. This old traditional handicraft lives on to this day and has been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since November 2018. Indigo dyeing is intimately linked with Einbeck. KWS has commissioned a special edition of high-quality towels as a token of its esteem for the region’s cultural heritage and to express its deep bonds with its home town. The practical gray towels are made of a cotton-linen blend fabric and have a hanging loop in bright orange.

The towels can be purchased in our web shop.

KWS surfing tip

Our intranet offers instructions, policies, guidelines and downloads under the “Marketing Channel” to ensure we convey our brand in a consistent manner. A link takes you to the BrandNet, which explains all design rules – whether for PowerPoint slides, social media or job ads. It also offers templates (letterheads, logos, etc.). If you need photos and videos, you can access our media database from the “Marketing Channel.” And anyone who has good grounds to publish something themselves on the intranet or the Internet can find the conditions for that in the “Marketing Channel,” as well as advice on how to reach a large audience for their content by means of search engine marketing. |

… were awarded to KWS in fiscal 2019/2020. The figure was 464 last year and 402 the year before that. This increase is a true reflection of our breeding progress and the quality of our products.
