Introduction

Dear readers,

The Strategic Planning 2031 has charted our KWS’ course for the coming years. It’s very important for as many employees as possible to be aware of the strategy and to understand and get behind it. After all, everyone makes a contribution with their daily work to enable KWS to achieve the goals it has set. One pleasing aspect is that more and more colleagues feel well informed about the Strategic Planning. That and other findings were revealed by the global survey on the SP31.

KWS’ hybrid rye has enjoyed a meteoric international career. However, rye’s image was not always good, as it was considered a cereal for rather poor soils, and ergot was feared by livestock farmers. Our breeders were not only able to increase yields with hybrid rye, but they also got to grips with the ergot problem. Convincing farmers of rye’s full potential takes people like Jacob Winther Nymand. In the portrait, he talks about his work – and what makes him so passionate about rye.

Some information on my own behalf: After 13 years at Corporate Communications, I will be moving to the Research and Development Communications team within KWS. That means I’ll also be handing over insideKWS to a new pair of hands. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interest in the employee magazine and your feedback. A big thank-you goes to all my colleagues, whose contributions always provide new insights into our growing KWS.

We hope you enjoy reading this and further editions of insideKWS!
