Wolfgang Michalek took the CEB Circle around the new labs and offices in Biotechnology Center 2
Tradition
Meeting of the
family shareholders
in Einbeck
The annual get-together of the CEB Circle went ahead even in the time of coronavirus. The shareholders from the Büchting family gathered at KWS’ headquarters in Einbeck on July 31.
Due to the coronavirus, the family members did not travel as planned to Pop Vriend in Andijk this year and instead met at Einbeck. In view of circumstances, the number of participants was also reduced and the program streamlined. Nevertheless, there was enough time after lunch in the KWS Forum’s guest area for them to view the main investments at the Grimsehlstraße campus.
The visitors were split into two groups for that: One took the opportunity to listen to Michael Scholz, Head of Seed Processing, who shed light on the major investment PIA (Production Extension and Innovation Einbeck). Michael Scholz took the group to the new logistics center in Hall 7 and to Machine Hall 6, where he explained the process for applying active substances to and packaging sugarbeet seed. The second group was given a tour of the new research building BioTechnikum 2 by Wolfgang Michalek, Head of Laboratory Services. The family shareholders were enthusiastic about the architecture, as well as the new labs and offices and works of art from the “Art meets Science” project.
Afterwards, CEO Hagen Duenbostel gave the CEB Circle an overview of KWS’ current situation. Apart from the business figures, he focused on the performance of the vegetables business one year after establishment of the Business Unit Vegetables. The CEB Circle took keen note of the measures to contain the coronavirus that KWS had initiated worldwide. A video collage under the slogan “Seed is Life!” demonstrated how employees were putting them into practice in their everyday work. The lively dialogue that ensued illustrated clearly the great commitment and attachment with which the CEB Circle follows KWS’ development. |

Information
The CEB Circle
As long-standing Chairman of the Executive Board and later of the Supervisory Board, Carl-Ernst Büchting (1915–2010) – known as CEB for short – stood at KWS’ helm as a representative of the fifth generation of the founding family. His children and their families come together in the CEB Circle. To nurture contact with the company and to keep informed of the latest developments, the family shareholders visit a KWS location once a year, usually on the weekend around CEB’s birthday on September 6. The founding family’s traditionally close ties to the company are a hallmark of KWS and are to be continued in the future. |
