Modern learning

In October, GLOBE HR will introduce our new global learning and development platform in Germany. It connects a modern training and learning experience with a comprehensive training catalog and useful team development functions

Since 1856, the skills, know-how and experience of our colleagues have been the key to the success of KWS. Enabling employees to develop is therefore at the heart of our HR strategy. With the new learning management system Success Factors Learning, which will be available in Germany beginning in October, KWS will for the first time have a central platform that covers almost all training and learning needs of colleagues around the world. With personalized training programs and a set of management tools it also supports colleagues and managers in training and development matters.

How employees and team leads benefit

With the many self-service functions, KWS employees are now able to define and design their own development path. "Success Factors Learning is an important pillar for the practical implementation of 'Make Yourself Grow,'" says Melanie Eisinger, Head of Global HR. Depending on individual needs and interests, everyone has access to a growing training and qualifications catalog – from digital training modules that can be completed directly on the platform to live on-site, remote or hybrid training offerings.

The variety of training courses ranges from routine training to compulsory instructions and certificate refresher courses to more complex long-term qualification programs. It also covers the onboarding of new colleagues, leadership development and technical and functional training. Employees can directly register for such offerings via Success Factors Learning, or they can get courses assigned by their supervisor or HR Business Partners. When completing the course, automated reminders help to keep an eye on learning and development goals.

If a suitable training course is missing from the catalog, the GLOBE team also provides advice on external training options via the platform. Over time, employees build an individual learning history right on the platform. This makes it easy to track training progress and plan development steps. And if participants find a training unit particularly worthwhile, they can easily recommend it to their peers. For managers and HR business partners the system offers an always up-to-date overview of the development path of their teams and individual members.

Intense teamwork

Success Factors Learning is a good example of the cross-functional intensive teamwork in GLOBE

  • The Expert Hub Performance, Talent and Leadership Development leads the development of the platform and coordinates the integration of various learning and development programs at KWS into the new system. It also ensures more and more advanced training concepts and content.
  • The Expert Hub HR Systems and Data Management ensures that the platform is linked with other systems and with the necessary personnel data supplied by the staff. The HR team in the Global Transaction Center takes over all operational tasks of catalog and training management. For example, it coordinates with the instructors to ensure that specific training courses are provided.
  • The Global IT integration into our HR system landscape ensures the smooth operation and handling of the deployment of new functionalities. It also ensures the proper allocation of users and access roles in keeping with our standards regarding compliance and security aspects.

Learning culture for more efficiency

In the future, Success Factors Learning will cover the entire spectrum of training offerings at KWS. As a central hub it connects all our employees with the many learning opportunities in our company. As a result, our global learning and development strategy has a robust technical backbone for creating an integrated learning experience for all employees, strengthens their own initiative and promotes the fun of learning. The platform fosters an open learning culture within the company for all employees, allowing us to develop necessary skills, improve business results and performance, and increase our competitiveness. |

Three questions for Sabine Vogt

1. How does the new platform fit into the strategy of KWS for employees regarding development and qualification?

Success Factors Learning opens up a whole new learning and development perspective for us. The platform enables us to create learning plans for specific roles or functions and combines access to traditional classroom training with the possibilities of digital learning. It supports the introduction of new administrative structures across the company with GLOBE, because it seamlessly integrates all processes of training management.

2. What are the biggest challenges in developing and implementing the learning platform?

The implementation in Germany is just the beginning for us. This will be followed by the expansion of the training content and the gradual introduction of the system for KWS employees around the world. Since we are still in the middle of the transition to GLOBE, the introduction of standardized processes for training and learning management with many teams involved is of course a challenge in itself. But the vision of a centralized system that each KWS employee can use helps us focus.

3. What advice would you give our colleagues to help them make the most of the platform?

I would say: Look forward to a gradually growing number of training courses. Be curious, explore the system with its many options and use it actively as a basis for finding training opportunities and for discussing your personal development with your line manager! And don't forget: if you see that topics or functions are missing, let us know! |
