Social responsibility
KWS is committed to social engagement and thus making a positive social impact – through expertise, resources and inspiration.
The region highlights its STEM credentials by staging “Youngsters Research.”
Our focus is on promoting future-oriented projects, dialog and initiatives, as well as scholarships, especially in the field of natural and agricultural sciences. KWS assumes responsibility in the Einbeck region with a focus on enhancing the attractiveness of the location, for example by positioning it as a life sciences location in order to promote regional marketing of the location and attract skilled personnel.
This includes initiatives such as the state contest “Jugend forscht – Schüler experimentieren” (“Youngsters Research – School Students Experiment”), in which young researchers present their projects in STEM subjects. The contest inspires an interest in science and research among children and young people and aims to highlight the region’s credentials in this sphere. KWS also sponsors art and cultural projects such as the NEWCOMER KWS Art Lounge and art exhibitions at its Einbeck campus. These projects serve as a source of inspiration for innovation and help to open up new perspectives.
Overview
Fields of activity
Our contribution of €1.9 million is distributed as follows:
€362,000 of the social engagement budget goes to projects and initiatives in Einbeck.
Our social purpose is to provide expertise, resources and inspiration to generate a social impact from science to farm to fork.
Committed to sustainability
We continue to support projects in various areas in fiscal 2024/2025 in order to achieve our goals under our Sustainability Ambition 2030. With the Sustainability Ambition, KWS has undertaken to invest at least one percent of its annual EBIT in social projects worldwide by 2030. In the past fiscal year 2023/2024, the figure was 0.7 percent (€1.9 million).
International collaboration plays an important role in this regard. For example, an ongoing vegetable school garden project in Brazil promotes access to healthy food. This initiative is to be expanded in the coming years and established in other countries. KWS has also continued to make donations and conduct projects in Ukraine; for example, it provides aid deliveries for refugees in the Kamianets-Podilskyi region and supports an agricultural microbiology institute.
Another example of our international engagement and sustainable development projects is our cooperation with local partners in Kenya and Zambia. These projects aim to diversify cultivation systems by improving access to high-yielding, more robust varieties for smallholders. |
